Exactly what I was thinking.

So from what I understand, you basically run 5k race pace for longer than the race in order to get used to it?

No, you run whatever distance you run as fast as you can. You don't run 5k race pace for 4-8 miles which is impossible by the way.

I wouldn't say it is impossible. What if your 5k pace just wasn't very fast?

My definition of 5k pace is however fast you can go for 5k. Now, say you are training in the summer and you sustain your pr 5k pace from last fall for 5 miles. I think that's what you are trying to say. But surely if that were the case then you could run a 5k now faster than you could last fall.

No I mean if a person runs their pr 5k one week and then the next runs that pace for 8 miles. I couldn't do it and I would guess many people couldn't. I'm just not gonna say it is impossible.

I hope that answers your questions, but if you have more, don't hesitate to ask!!!

I hesitated to ask this for a while but I hope you don't mind. Just curious was the person who did 90 a week last year Michael Sublette. He made a dramatic drop last year from the previous year. Was a mileage increase why?

First of all, thanks for the compliments, guys. I'm glad I could clear up some gray areas and hopefully get rid of some misconceptions.

On the PPMs at 5K pace, I would say if you can do it, do it. Although I don't truly know how possible it is, as if both your 5K pr and your say 8 mile pr are the same pace, then you should probably be running a little faster or harder in the 5K. But that is the gist of things; run as fast as you can as far as you can.

IR_BrettFavre, my friend that was doing 90 miles a week was not michael sublette. This is the second time that I have specified that this person was my FRIEND, and sublette just doesn't make the cut. So that automatically eliminates him from contention. I will keep the identity of this specific friend hidden, but if you guys are looking for mystery to solve, this friend retired from Indiana Runner, but then decided to make a comeback to the site under a different screen name. Maybe that will give you somewhere to start hahaha

Hey guys, I know I havent posted on here in awhile, so here's to geting back into the groove.

Here is an article from Running Times that features Columbus North, focusing on last year's national meet. The excellently written article is actually written by a Columbus North alum, Rachel Stark, and was featured in i think last month's issue of running times. So if you didn't know about this, or are like me and honestly don't want to spend money on anything that is not a necessity, then here is a link to the article:

If paper writing is getting in the way of your running you may have a problem
