Luke Briggs here, this is the place to ask any questions or just talk about running.. or anything else. Sorry about my bio and stuff, not really sure why some words look likethis, but hopefully you read it and it wasnt too big of a deal for you. Had a great time at the meet Friday. Fast times across the board early really excite me for what the future will bring.

Hmm.. not sure who is asking but i have around 4-5 schools im looking into right now... i know, i need to narrow it down pretty soon.. but im kind of waiting until the fafsa is filed to see what kind of packages those places could give out which is going to help. Im looking in to some NAIA and NCAA DIII schools. I wanted a smaller school not too far away from home.

Wow, this is a tough question. Both men are pretty awesome i would have to say. Although i may or may not of said something like "this is the awesomer luke br" the other night when asked who i was i believe these two individuals are on an equal playing field. One has great pr's at watermellon spitting contests and latterball.. while the other has magical golden locks and the body of a goddess. This is much too broad of a subject for a simple answer. Time will tell in the fate of these two but for now, i just hope their alliance stays strong. For just one night let them not be Co-runners. but Co-people

Being a fellow 800 runner, I was curious about your thoughts on training for the 800. What do you think is the most important part of training for this distance? I know that there are a least two schools of thought on this matter, but I wanted to see what works for you.

good question. the 800 is a tricky race. It makes a difference if the person is more of a sprinter moving up, or a distance guy moving down. Basically the way we have trained for it is by training as if the mile was our main event, at least until indoor is over. As the season goes on, the intervals get shorted and faster. I dont really have an answer in what is the most important part for training. Some important aspects i think are: getting a solid amount of mileage, intervals Longer workouts like tempos and fartleks are also necessary. Those i think are more important to me since they are tougher than hammering out intervals. I am a track guy turned distance runner so these workouts are tougher for me so i think i get more out the longer stuff. What are these two thoughts on raining you mentioned?

You touched both of them in your answer. The two I know of are the sprint way and the distance way, and I've seen both be successful at times. My 4x800 team contains two sprinters and two cross country guys, so I know there isn't a right way to go about it. I completely agree with your advice with how to train and everything. In my opinion, the 800 is the toughest distance to train for. It has become a controlled sprint now, and runners have to master both speed and endurance. How much base mileage do you normally get in a week leading up to those shorter interval workouts?

my mileage is pretty consistant throughout the year. for the last month i have been bumping up my mileage bit by bit. Tomorrow im doing my first morning run of the season. Ill be at 60 miles in the next couple of weeks and ill basically stay around that for the rest of the season until taper time! if im doing fine with 60 after awhile i might move up a little more but i dont see that happening too much. My long run wont get too much over 12 miles this season
