Not sure how much I want to make public, but sure I'll try. Younger runners who want are interested in running at the next level and want to know how a visit works, listen up!
I left school after lunch on Thursday to catch my flight to DC later in the afternoon (which was great timing, because there was a gun threat to our school on Friday). Once we landed in DC, my mom and I met up with Austin Gregor (runner from Gtown) and Mark Derrick (recruit from Illinois.....also Chris Derrick's little brother). We took a taxi over to campus so we could drop our bags off and also meet up with the other recruits, Ahmed Bile and another guy from Illinois. Later we all went out to eat with the coaches, and then back to the dorms to go to sleep. My hosts were Max Farrah (won junior nationals in the steeple) and Tyler Anyan (8:52 guy in high school). They were pretty cool guys. Me and Max played a lot of Call of Duty during our down time, and Tyler was hilarious.
Friday morning, I did my workout of 2 x 2 mile with Ahmed. Right before he started, he told me he was going to go off of one minute rest in between each set, but I told him there was no way I could do that, so I went off 5 minutes. After the workout, I went to a chemistry class with Max and Omar Kaddurah (also a really cool dude). We then had lunch in the cafeteria, which may have been my favorite part. They had every type of food imaginable, and it was all you can eat 3+ times a day. Needless to say I stuffed my face. Later on in the day, we watched all of the guys on the team do a workout. It looked like a pretty complicated workout, so I wouldn't be able to tell you what they did. To finish up the day, we had a pizza party at one of the guys' apartments, which was a lot of fun.
Saturday morning, the entire team did their long run at Rock Creek Park (it reminds me a lot of Eagle Creek). The top group did about 100 minutes, but I only did 70. We then had brunch in the cafeteria again, and I did not leave hungry. Then we went back to the dorms and hung out for a while before I had a meeting with the coaches and my mom. After the meeting, we took a taxi back to the airport to come back to Indy.
Overall, Georgetown is a great school. I liked all of the guys on the team, and they were a great group of motivated guys. The biggest difference I could tell was in the people. A majority of the students at Georgetown are from the east coast, so they are just different than us Midwest people and what I'm used to. It's hard for me to tell if I really liked Georgetown or not; I think I need to take more visits so that I have something to compare it to.
