Hi Caleb:

You mentioned in your intro that you were 14th man on a 15 man squad. Can you list your event progressions from 7th grade through high school?

I'll do my best to remember some times, but I didn't pay as close attention in my middle school days.

7th
1600 6:30
800 3:00

8th
ran cross country but quit track after I got beat by girls in the first meet.

9th
5k 17:02
3200 11:32
1600 5:04
(pulled my hamstring early in track season so didn't run particularly well compared to XC)

10th
5k 16:53
3200 10:12
1600 4:42

11th
5k 15:35
3200 9:24
1600 4:26

12th
5k 15:20

Obviously I had big drops in time between 8th - 9th grade and 10th - 11th grade. The reasons I think I improved so much freshman year were A) I grew 4 inches and lost 5 pounds, and B) I had an actual training program under Coach Wilson. The variables in the jump my junior year however were A) I quit soccer, and B) my mileage on doubles. I went from 35-40 mpw on singles to 55-60 mpw on doubles.

What do you think you'd have to accomplish this track season to get the new Evansville North High School football stadium/track named after you?

I'd probably have to literally run myself to death at the state meet this year. Although, after the last two XC state meets, that's not outside the realm of possibility.

I'm pretty much down to just a pair of schools to decide between: Purdue and USI. I want to go into engineering so Purdue is an obvious choice, but USI has a good engineering program also and would be a great fit for me financially. At this point my decision is basically down to what kind of academic scholarships I get offered this Spring. Other schools I was considering were Butler, Rose-Hulman, Dayton, and Cornell.

How long did it take your body to adjust to all of the doubles, and what made you decide to start running them?

I saw a couple of other runners running doubles in the area and having success doing it. I also quit soccer my junior year and had more energy than I had in previous years, so I decided to use it to put in extra miles. Another factor was I began driving to school and didn't have to be ready as early to be at the bus stop and had time to run and shower in the mornings. It actually only took a couple weeks to adjust, the hardest thing is to get your body used to waking up early. I usually start each season running singles, then a short double every other day for a week, then go to doubles every day and gradually increase the distance of each run.
