SALEM — The Silver Creek boys’ cross country team had three runners finish in the top five to win the Salem Invitational Saturday, scoring 41 points.

The Dragons’ Isaak Haas was the individual winner in a time of 16:58. Silver Creek’s Jason Fruits ended up third, while teammate Drew Roberts was fifth. Rounding out the scoring for the Dragons were Tyler Priddy in 14th and Morgan Davidsson in 18th.

Borden placed third with 55 points and Christian Academy of Indiana was fifth with 147.

The Silver Creek girls’ team nearly swept both team titles for the Dragons. Creek scored 41 points, one point behind first-place Salem.

Brittany Sharp led the Dragons, finishing third. Teammate Rachel Clemons was fourth, while Creek’s Mackenzie Crouch wound up seventh. Also for the Dragons, Maggie Shields ended up eighth and Miranda Coats was 19th. Borden fielded an incomplete team.

“Both teams ran well and continue to improve each time we race,” Silver Creek head coach Darrell Kingery said. “Good things are in store for this team if we can continue to stay on the path we have chosen.”

Silver Creek will return to action next Saturday at the Artesian Classic in Martinsville.

“Next (Saturday) will be our first big test when we go to Martinsville and run against 15 to 20 teams in our class that are very good. It will be a nice challenge for both teams,” Kingery said.
