Duneland Athletic Conference 10/2

Postby DAC on Sat Oct 02, 2010 3:12 pm

1. Valpo 36
2. LP 52
3. CH 85
4. CP 113
5. MV 144
6. LC 148
7. P 176
8. MC 188

Notes: Valpo dominate up front with 3-4-5 finish (11th, 10th, and 9th grader). CH without Cutter or would have probably edged LP since a 1-3 would replace a 35. Portage without most of regulars.

Hubner LP
Harrison MV
Aljobeh V
Reed V
Coulopoulos V
Morris CH
Hojnacki LP
Bobos V
Ray CP
West LP
Caddick MV
Hickok LC

These were top 12 and named all-conf.

Valpo girls won. Katelyn DeVries was first, followed by the freshman girl from LaPorte, then a LC girl. Laicee Pierce from CP was fourth. Valpo's next three were something like 5-6-9.

The meet was hosted by Portage. They do a great job of running the big meets, but I think their results system is a bit old. I don't know if they can post it online or not.
Ryan Cutter didn't run, and the word is appendicitis that may have hit him on Friday night. Several Portage runners, or at least two freshmen, didn't run due to the old "violation of team rules." Valpo had a pretty good overall effort, solid top 4 but Aljobeh probably would tell you he didn't have his best race. Merrillville's Dylan Harrison ran great, finishing second to Hubner.

Big run by Valpo here. Aljobeh may have finished back a bit from where he would have liked to, but a team win will make up for that I'm sure.

Any idea on time range? Ground soft/gopher filled?

I believe that Cutter was on a college visit in Alabama this weekend. Several Portage runners from both the boys and girls teams didn't run. What's up with that?

Great times. That course is a great course once it is rolled. Valpo put on quite a show, move up that 5 and only 1 team would be out of reach.

Cutter was/is sick, no college visit. Hopefully he can rest up and get healthy as he has had a very good season up to this point.

Cutter has appendicitis. Rumored to have been in the hospital Friday night.
As for Portage, well it seems there may have been a get-together the night of the Culver meet in which several athletes, not just runners, made a poor decision to attend.

Are you sure?

Valpo has all the talent in the world to finish runner up this year and take the title next year. After yesterday, they left no doubt. They are running lights out :o

That really stinks for the Portage teams. It makes me sad to hear these things because so many kids don't stop to think of the consequences of some of their actions - athletes should know better, especially this close to the post season meets.

This article mentions a possible appendicitis. I hope not because Cutter is a great kid with a ton of talent and I enjoy seeing him race. Let's hope he is able to compete in the postseason and if not, I wish him well on his recovery and preparation for the track season.
