Not trying to take away from the accomplishments but, despite the muddy, wet conditions it looks like this course ran much faster or flatter than at Northview. The times of the six Blue Chip boys listed in the state meet top fifteen are -- 13, 32, 21, 32, 26, & 14 seconds faster. The boys finishing 8th, 9th, 10th, 12th, 13th, 14th in the Blue Chip meet also all ran in the meet at Carmel a week earlier, and their times were also significantly faster at the Blue Chip meet -- 37, 22, 20, 28, 39, & 25 seconds respectively.

You are right jtcorbin, but the last 2 years before this year, the times from Northview and our course have been much tighter/closer than this year and very comparable. The wind from the west was definitely a big factor the day of Middle School State, and the jr-hi boys ran first at the Blue Chip meet which had not been ran over by anyone even with the muddy/wet sections. I know for a fact the course is 3K-cause it has been wheeled several times because some coaches and parents have questioned the length. It is a course with long straight-a-ways, few corners, and from the mile mark on-a runner can really roll to the finish. Good competition can create fast times on any course..!

This Perkins kid is running crazy right now for a sixth grader. I just hope he doesn't burn out because that tends to happen to guys that are running that well early on.

Burn out won't be a problem with Perkins. He runs very limited mileage. 4 days a week and that is it. He has gifted, natural ability and that is it right now. Burn out is an overused word and many people including runners-don't even have a clue of what it is or means. Kind of like shin-splints, which there is no such thing. Rest assured that he is being guided in the right direction to become a runner!
