Running Watch Suggestions?

Postby JustTheMom on Tue Nov 17, 2009 10:16 am

Anybody have any good suggestion on a running watch for younger runners? Daughter has expressed an interest in having one - I'm sure this is 'cause big bro has one......any suggestions for her would be appreciated. She's ten, just does the 3K program now with a club....averages 2-3 mile runs on an every other day basis. Something not extremely expensive, so when it gets lost I don't feel terrilbe. Thanks!!

Get her a Timex Ironman. These are what the majority of runners use, because they are pretty cheap, easy to use, and overall just really good watches.

There are a variety of sizes and styles available, I would obviously get one of the smaller ones for her. These will also have a few less functions as some of their other watches, but should still be able to keep 30 splits, which is far more than your daughter should need. This will make it a little bit simpler to use also.

personally I like the Timex Ironman, but if you expect it to be lost i wouldn't reccomend it since they run about 50 bucks. Until she becomes a little more responsible I don't see a problem with getting a 10 dollar generic watch with a stopwatch feature.

Only the high level Ironman watches cost that much. You can get them for $20 or less very often if you just buy the basic Ironman watch.

Here is one for $17:

I just got an Ironman watch. I would suggest it for anyone who likes to pay really close attention to their distance, pace, and splits during a race or training run. It's fun to play with and doesn't cost aa much as a gps/heartrate monitor can.

Oh that's sweet! I've never heard of a child wanting a running watch! ool!

By the way, i think Nike would be a nice choice since it is a familiar brand for her. But if you want you may also choose one from timex. It is just $15. Sorry i can't put the picture but it is so cute, the face is small, the color is pink and very trendy. You may visit the exact page for the picture at http://www.runningwatchreviews.com/88/timex-womens-1440-sports-digital-watch-t5j151/

you may also try the hope page of that review site and find out some other brands, just type in "pink" to the search box.

Hope that helps
