Northwestern’s Charlie Neher was the fastest runner, taking first in 18:27 to lead the Tigers to victory in the three-team meet at Tipton. Also for the Tigers, Zach Duranto was fourth in 19:13, Shad Jakes was eighth in 20:30, Tyler Barnes was 10th in 21:33 and Jacob Heredos was 11th in 21:46.
“I’m very happy that the boys got a victory,” NW coach Dave Stevens said. “We had eight course bests out of our 11 runners. It’s a very promising thing for the guys and I’m just looking forward to them running Saturday at New Prairie to see how they can do on a semistate course.”
Stefon Wallace led Taylor with a third-place finish in 19:11. Julian Nieto was fifth (19:17), Jordan Nieto was 17th (22:32), Brandon Cook was 18th (22:55) and Drake Yeiter was 20th (25:11).
“Wallace and [Julian] Nieto took third and fifth there. They both ran season bests. Not real sure where it came from,” Taylor coach Matt Carlile said. “It was a little warm, I think the heat got to the other guys, but it was a good run for them. They had some good competition. That’s probably what pushed them there.

[This Saturday], we also get to run on the regional course at New Prairie. I think the girls are looking forward to giving that course a run, seeing how they stack up this season.”
