Traffic Issues

Postby RegionCrossFan on Sun Nov 01, 2009 9:16 pm

I may be off base here, but was anyone else really frustrated with the traffic control coming into Laverne Gibson yesterday? I got to the "area" at about 12:30 and traffic was way backed up. We (literally) had just parked and shut our car door when the gun for the boys race went off. While waiting in line in my car to just turn down Tabertown, people were jumping out of their cars and running/walking the rest of the way to get in. I was soooo angry as there was a police officer stationed at Tabertown & 42, but rather than getting out and directing traffic, he say in his squad car...on his cell phone. We couldn't believe it.

Some of you are thinking, "get their earlier", but I thought a 1/2 hour would be more than enough time. I know they have hosted many big time events at Laverne and many of the people are volounteers, but I thought the traffic management was downright horrible.

End of rant. 8-)

I got there 10min before you and got in just fine...I can imagine it started getting pretty backed up around a 1/2 hour before start time though. I think it really made a difference of which direction you came from, I noticed that the cars that had to turn right into the parking lot (like mine) were getting in alot quicker than the ones turning left into the lot. There was a huge line of cars that were opposite mine when I pulled in and I was thinking there was no way they were all gettin in before gun time.

Something was different this time, and I don't know what it could have been. We approached at about the same time as we have the previous 3 years; we should have arrived almost a half hour before the first race. But we became mired in the bumper-to-bumper traffic on westbound 42 & then Tabortown Rd and in fact missed the boys' race, a horrible disappointment.
