Hey guys, I just wanted to leave some end of the year comments.
First off, the season has been quite a ride. I went in not really knowing what to think, and along the way I made a ton of great friends. I just want to thank a ton of people that have been so nice to me.
Bain was one of the nicest guys to me even before the season. He thought that I had a chance to make a little noise (just after hearing the camp I went to and such) and he never REALLY doubted my talent. He may never have ranked me number 1,2, or 3 in the semi-state (rightfully so), but he never doubted that I could prove myself. Thanks
Even more runners have been welcoming to me. Especially the Hamilton County guys and the big competitors.
I ran against Jason Hoard at the very first meet; I imagine he thought it wouldn't be that tough (seeing he won the early bird last year, uncontested, just barely under 17.) I almost caught him, but he clearly had it in the bag at Brebuef back in August. Either way he was a great sport. When our team for the first time beat his, he was classy about that also. It was a fluke that he didn't make it to state; if he did, I imagine he would have beat me once again and gotten in the top 15-20 range. Thanks man
Connor Martin, Josh Millares, and Chris Walden have all been nice guys as well. These are all Hamilton County boys that I saw often. Back in July I talked to Connor about a sophomore year of running, what to expect, things like that. He's always been willing to answer any questions I've had. Millares is hysterical, another guy that got screwed over by the H1N1. He and the whole Fishers team will be back this track season with vengeance though...scary to think about. Of all the guys I've mentioned, Walden had by far the best finish of the season and deserves it too. Running very smart and giving me advice along the way. All these guys so far will be All-State next year without a doubt.
The Zionsville and Noblesville team have both been very kind to me also. Berg, Bixler, Zans, I think all the Zionsville guys were some of the people that congratulated me immediately after the race at semi-state. Even though we compete against each other, they've been great sports. Noblesville has been just as great. Bowers, Ferg, Cody, Sam, Colin, all of em' are hilarious and some of the nicest guys I go. That may be because they are coached by one of the coolest and nicest people I know. Graham has been helpful and cool the whole time. Thanks
Another team that people probably don't know of is the International School of Indiana. They have been great friends with Guerin for a while, and they used to have a talented individual named Noah Droddy (now at Depauw). They are great sports at tons of meets and the whole school appreciates there sportsmanship. One of these days they will get out of the tough Ben Davis sectional, just wait.
Individuals I've met along the way:
Tate Schienbein - I raced against him at the Rushville Invite; Took the lead early and never looked back. A friendship came out of that race, each helping each other along the way. Don't worry about the race today; You've already proved yourself, people know that today was too crazy to determine anything. Like everyone else I've mentioned, TJ is one of the best in the state.
Gabe Ocasio - Gabe and I have only chatted a little. Congrats to the Columbus North team as a whole. Gabe was encouraging me to run up with him today, although I never REALLY got up there with him, it was nice knowing that someone more talented than myself was asking me to compete with him.
Joe Ebling - He and I only talked once or twice, but he was one of the few to really congratulate me after county. He sent me a nice e-mail just saying I had gained his respect and such. Nobody had ever really done that to me before and it just made me feel cool. Great race today man.
Everybody at Guerin is just great too. It's tough having to go all the stages without a team, but I hardly felt that way. Some of the guys would come out to un-mandatory practices and pace me and such. Best teammates a guy could ask for.
Other people:
Family and friends, support along the way. They just rock.
JT, Wyatt, Griff, the gang. - All these guys never doubted me and helped me get to Boulder. JT, GET HEALTHY FOR TRACK! (watch out for him)
Tons of people have been great, Kyle Duvall, Graham Martin, Kyle Knight, Sam Roudebusch, Sam Berger, Nick Kirkpatrick, Adam Turner, Rocky Polluck, Hale O' Herron, everyone's been awesome.
Sorry if I missed anybody.
Thanks guys for making my 'coming out season' so special.
See ya for indoor state.
