New Forum?

Postby Prefonbain on Tue Nov 10, 2009 10:45 pm

Ok, we have clearly been having problems with this forum with threads vanishing and the random shut downs (the worst being like 2 days before the state meet). Other than that, it has been pretty productive for us.

I am considering looking into finding another forum. However, I want your opinion on our choices of waiting it out for this one (hoping it improves its slight problems) or going to a new one.

PROS for going to a new one: Avoid problems
CONS for going to a new one: Everybody has to re-register

We obviously will be much more efficient and more well planned this time around in gathering all of our important posts and information. Just place a vote so I can see what the majority would like us to do.

New forum and the act of reregistering is OK.
Losing the archives is not OK.

If I remember correctly V bulletin was very good except for many security problems (hackers). If that is fixed (check the Vbulletin forum itself for opinions)
that's a winner

The problem with VBulletin was the new hosting site we were using that we redesigned the site with. This program allowed both Colin and I to update the site more quickly, however it did not support VBulletin. That is why we had to make a change in the first place. We would have to find another alternative choice, but I am confident we can find that.

I'm not going to vote as I am just happy to have a place to come check things out and I know how much work is involved in running a board. However I will say that navigating this site, for me, is a bit of a pain, unless there is a very obvious link to the main index page on every sub-page that I have not noticed. (and I just found it at the bottom "Board Index" DOH!!)

I don't know to much about the phpBB form, but it looks like it is more of a hosting problem. I understand that it costs a lot to buy hosting space, but it would eliminate the bloatware in the posts, and the site would run faster. I don't know if that is an option, with brandwith usage and pricing, but I am willing to bet that is the best option.
