Lets Talk STATE!

Postby hybridwheelchair on Wed Oct 21, 2009 5:10 pm

I know we have the big semi-states this weekend... but common, lets be real, it is ALL about the State Finals in the Haute on one of the best courses in America! Predictions? Individuals? Teams? Surprise All-States? State Meet Records? Course Records? I have a feeling this years meet is going to be fast, we have a pretty deep field this year... take note, how many will go sub 15:40? Since the state meet moved from Bloomington in 2005 here is the STATE MEET RECORD LIST(under 15:40 at state meet):

NAME PLACE SCHOOL YEAR TIME
1. Brock Hagerman 1 Pendleton Heights 2005 15:13.2
2. Drew Shields 1 Fishers 2008 15:20.3
3. Futsom 2 North Central 2008 15:25.48
4. De'sean Turner 2 Warren Central 2005 15:25.5
5. Adam Martin 3 Chesterton 2005 15:31.8
6. Mike Fout 1 Laporte 2007 15:31.9
7. James Martin 3 FW Carrol 2008 15:33.93
8. Adam Green 4 Franklin Central 2005 15:36.3
9. Michael Pabody 5 Southport 2005 15:37.3
10. Dylan Sorrenson 4 Zionsville 2008 15:39.98

I think Chris Derrick has the overall HS 5k record from NTN regional, sub 15 I believe... Will we see a sub 15 out of Futsum? I WANT TO SEE A SHOW THIS YEAR!

Why does everyone only care about what Futsum runs? What about the other 200 guys that are going to be racing? I mean, seriously, it's not like he has the race locked up or anything. If he did, then he would have his ring already. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he does not. There are plenty of other guys who want their shot at beating him, trust me. It's possible, and it might happen.

Because he is an insanely fast sophmore, has a good story. People do care about the other runners but Futsum is an easy favorite so the attention goes on him. He doesn't have the race locked up but he killed the field at regionals so his chances are looking very good. Correct. Correct. Correct

Honestly, Futsum has sandbagged almost every race this year. Sit and kick, sit and kick, all year long. He opened it up a little bit at regional and look what happend. He has just been toying with his competition. He is the ONLY guy in the state who can flirt with sub 15 at state, he was 4th at FL nats last year, common people.

So what does this guy have against the "common people"? Is he some kind of elitist? Come on hybrid get with it.

Futsum is almost like a celebrity to many. I know he isn't quite on the same level as these guys, but it's alot like why people like to follow the careers of Michael Jordan, Peyton Manning, and Tiger Woods. They might not win every single competition they go into but they are good enough to make people always want to see them and talk about them.

My bad on the stats, slipped my mind. Since he was ONLY 7th at FL Nats as a frosh, I apparently gave him way too much credit. So Byrne did run 15:09 and Futsum only 15:11? This means absolutely nothing. You cannot compare time in XC. Thats why they only keep course records, and even at that conditions can change.

I am a fan of the common runner out there trying to take down Futsum. But Futsum has yet to lose to an Indiana runner this season if I am not mistaken? And he has raced many of the best. Sure, he didn't have the fastest time at Flashrock, but he won. If he would have been in the other race I bet he would have... wait...wait... wait for it... SIT AND KICKED for the WIN! I think it will take something near a miracle for someone to upset him at State, which is why I am more curious about if he will break the unnofficial THaute state record and make a charge at sub-15, or will he sit back with the leaders and simply go for the win. As I said before, I am hoping for some fireworks and a BIG performance. Can you imagine a sub-15 at state by a sophomore? Praying for good conditions!

Okay, I'm getting tired of half of you guys hating on futsum because he is fast and is "overpraised" on here; and the other half in love with him and talking about him non stop. Futsum is a prodigy and is the kind of talkent we will see running in Olympic trials and big meets when he is older. The kid was runner up in state as a freshman, hes obviously pretty damn good. Although, hes not the only contending champion in this state. You have guys like Byrne C. Martin O'Herron Vicenzi J. Martin and Osborn that could all hang with him in a race. I think he will win, actually I think he will win by at least 5 seconds after seeing him show his true colors at Regionals.

I've been able to see Futsum run numerous times this season and besides Regionals and a little bit at Culver, he has stayed with the lead group through 3K, then starts to take off at his own speed. You could tell if you went to Brebeuf Regional that this guys can race and wants to win. He took off about 10 meters in front of everybody after 200 meters and expanded that gap throughout the race. Futsum is an amazing runner, but not the only one.

Alright I didn't even read the whole thread but I read up to this point, and I hate to inform all of you, BUT FUTSUM IS SIMPLY ON ANOTHER LEVEL THAN EVERY OTHER RUNNER IN ThE STATE OF INDIANA. Futsum IS too good for anyone, you people do not understand he could take 2 weeks off befor state, and STILL break 15:25 on Gibson. State will be a cake walk for Futsum, and he is the hands down winner of the State Meet. He's the best... boom.

While I am a beliver in Futsum's great running abilities and that he is holding back (except Culver) I would like to see Tyler Byrne pull someting amazing out and win this.

Is Tyler Byrne still in the state of Indiana?
I saw in another message board that he moved out of the state. May just be a rumor. Anyone knows for sure please inform me.

Tyler Byrne just won the Crawford County Regional last week with a 16:03. If he decided to move out of the state now (which I highly doubt he did), then I don't know what he could be thinking.

I believe people said that last year. Can someone tell me what happened in that race?

so back to state. How many guys sub 15:40 this year? It seems to me the recent history suggests that 15:40 might be the standard of a really great time on the state course. Obviously conditions and race tactics play a major role. I am saying we get 4 guys sub 15:40 this year, under good conditions. I am predicting Futsum, Martin, Byrne, and O'haren.

No Hale in the top five, that is a mistake. All those guys are great but Hale O'Herren has passed and ran away from my expectations of him this year. After running 16:30's and 20's last year this kid has had some serious improvement. Face it, he knows how to win the big ones better than anyone else. Hale won the two biggest meets of the year, State Preview and Flashrock. Not saying he will win state, its going to be exciting with Byrne finally running agaisnt some of these guys. Scott Vicenzi looks great as well not hesistate to consider him for the tital. This is going to be the best State race in recent history, I garantee it. Can't wait until after Semi's.

Byrne did not move out of state, that is ludicrous. And Byrne has yet to been beat at all, including kids from outside Indiana, unlike Futsum. They run the race for a reason people.

What!? Is this a joke? People just don't want to believe this guy is the best. Byrne, Vicenzi, Hale... these guys are amatuers compared to Futsum. If Futsum trained just 50 miles a week, he would be the best in the nation, instead of being 4th best in the nation. It simply blows my mind, WHAT MORE CAN HE DO!? He just ran a 15:15 on a course that was very sloppy and was not going 100%. I'm sorry my friends but Futsum will win by 20+ seconds. I guess this is all I will say but suck it up people, the next 3 years are FUTSUM YEARS!!! boom. boom.
