If we were handing out grades to the guys at regionals...

Postby WarriorXC09 on Sun Oct 18, 2009 12:26 am

This is what I would give out if I were grading the guys A+ to F throughout Regional action
A+ Kodi Mullins, Homestead, Marion Regional...I had never heard of him but beating Ross Ochs for the Regional title could not have been easy, going sub-16 too
A Futsum Z, North Central, Brebeuf Regional, Finally Futsum starts showing his true talent, one of his best runs of the year winning in dominant fashion over O'Herren and C. Martin on a difficult course
A- Alejandro Arroyo, Culver Academics, Culver Regional, showing that he is a true state finalist contender beating both Overway and Balser in over 20sec, impressive
B+ Kent Garrett, Guerin Catholic, Brebeuf Regional, One of, if not the best sophmore in the state, huge drops from last year, a potential trip to state, and the first runner From Guerin to make it to Semi-State, the list goes on...
B Scott Vicenzi, Brownsburg, Ben Davis Regional, This guy knows how to win, look for him to be a state tital contender, beats Ben Davis's Johnson by 20sec
B- Cody Marowski, Noblesville, Brebeuf Regional, very good run from coming off a bout with the flu, he will be able to drop even more in the coming weeks, and give Noblesville a shot at the team title
C+ Connor Martin, Westfield, Brebeuf Regional, Yea he got third but just an average performance in my book, I would've liked to see him cloer to Futsum, he is going to have to pick it up abit
C Lawrence North's Team, Brebeuf Regional, was disapointing to see tem come in 6th really thought they had a shot to beat HSE or Zionsville
C- Aaron Pugh, Fishers, Brebeuf Regional, was not a good performance, Aaron had a decent shot to make top 15 but didn't make it happen, not sure if their was any injury or what
D+ Andrew Wilhelm,Plainfield, Ben Davis Regional, seeing him go 16:39 at Ben Davis earlier I expected him faster than 17:35, team made it to Semi, so hopefully he will pick it up there
D James Ricker, Cathedral, Brebeuf Regional, not a good run, not sure whats up with him went 15:36 earlier this year but now just a 16:44 and an end to his season, very disapointing for him for sure
D- Jason Crist, Franklin Central, A strong second, but nowhere near where I thought he would be after I saw his 15:20 at Flashrock, he has really gone downhill on times and will have to be faster than 16:32 to make it out of Semi-State
F Are you kidding me I can't give anyone an F

Garret has run awesome this year and shown TREMENDOUS improvement. Even so how can you say "if not the best sophomore" in the state? Hello? Futsum!? Not to take anything away from him though, he has been running awesome and his improvement has been huge.

Agreed. I was standing by the tree at Breburf where they turn, with about 1200 left, and he was in 23rd place. Cinderella missed midnight again and he passed 11 guys in the final K. Another surprising run from the Guerin boy.

Though, I would not label him as THE BEST sophomore in the state. We overlooked a nice run by TJ schienbien from Union County, as well as Berger's great performance. Can't forget about Columbus North's nice set of sophomores too!

That is quite a class though, no doubt about it

The Juniors are pretty nuts too. Heck, Indiana just has good runners!

Seeing as your name implies you are from Warren Central I am sensing some bias here.

You seriously think Crist might not make it out of semi-state?

Did he say he thought Crist was not going to get out of semi state?

D- Jason Crist, Franklin Central, A strong second, but nowhere near where I thought he would be after I saw his 15:20 at Flashrock, he has really gone downhill on times and will have to be faster than 16:32 to make it out of Semi-State

I think he is basing this GRADE off of the fact that Crist was beat by Schienbein, who is very good but I thought that Crist was in a different league then Schienbein. I also think he doesn't realize how slow the course was at regionals and you can't compare that time to his Flashrock time.

Unless Crist runs way under his ability he is a lock to get out of semi state.

Doesn't this statement alone mean that he isn't a lock to get out of semi state. It isn't guaranteed that he will run fast enough to make it out. Do I think Crist will make it out? Yeah, probably. But is he a lock? No, no individual or team is a lock to make it out of any of the semi states.

Are you talking about JR? The dude literally had tears in his eyes at the finish -- I'm sure he was trying. A lot of hard work and sacrifice gone with a flu bug.

I'd bet the the people knocking his performance couldn't run a 16:45 on that course on their best day, much less getting over the flu.

If you take a look at my Semi-State predictions about the Franklin Central Semi-State you will see that I have Crist 8th, and ahead of Tate. I do not doubt his ability, he is an amazing runner. This grade was based soley on regionals. About JR I did not knwo the situation about him being sick, I was disapointed that he did not make it out because it is his senior year. I am sure he tried as hard as he could under the circumstances. For anyone to think he would not go all out is just plain stupid.
you might notice that none of my comments are malicious or cruel at all. I do not meen to offend anyone with these, Its not like im the professor and I just gave you your final back, grades were merely a way to catagorize some of the most notable regional performances.

Honestly i would appreciate it if the bias would be taken out of the forums. You call yourself WarriorXC09. you were there. Did you not see the conditions that day? Times were slow across the board. You guys were 10 seconds slower team average than at sectionals, and that sectional was supposed to be slow, and Rushville is supposed to be faster. I dont know if you actually run or not but the course itself was VERY soft, and the 35 degree weather didnt help i cant imagine how cold it was on the cousre running. thats all i have to say about that.

I in fact was not there because i'm not a member of the Warren Central team as some have assumed. Honestly I would appreciate it if people would stop getting so worked up about this. I do know , however that Rushville's course was less than ideal that day and I took that into account, I will say what I said before, if you are upset about my comments about crist, than look at my semi-state predictions and you will see that i do not doubt his ability as a runner to make it to state.

I do not understand how you can give Aaron Pugh a better grade then Crist at regionals when Pugh failed to make it out. And clealry times were slow at the regional, plus what competition did Crist have in his sectional or regional for that matter? He was in a faster race with competition at flashrock and he was only a second or two of O'Herren. He comes through big when it counts.
