Gut Feelings on Sprints

Postby hurdler04 on Thu Nov 12, 2009 8:05 pm

I know it might be kinda challenging to make accurate predicitons this far away from the upcoming track season, but what about the short sprints and hurdle events? Any gut feelings on future state champions in races 400M or less?

Watch out for James Elia in the 300 hurdles.

Leo Cordova or Richmond is the top returning placer in both the 100 and 200 from last year.

I have to believe that BD will reload in every sprint. They had some sophomores throw down some pretty sick times if I remember correctly

[quote]I don't know. I will tell you this though... Jarvis Mcmillian is now at Hobart. You know what that means???

Kendall Gunn and Jarvis McMillian on the same team. IT GON' BE NASTY/quote]

I think he'll have to wait on the ruling from the IHSAA....they basically said that the Wirt students can transfer to any Gary public school in the city and have immediate eligibility any other schools (including Bowman) is up to debate...I know their was an article about it when it came out he transferred to Hobart...can anyone find it and link it? I'm curious as to what it said.

The 400 returns 5 of the top 9 from last year. Are their any freshman that are likely to impact these guys or should we look for them in the fast heat of the finals?

Ooo, some REGION talk! :D

I will be intersted to see how Jarvis McMillan thing turns out. There was just an article in the paper yesterday, a small blurb, about some Wirt athlete's that transferred to Bowman Academy. The IHSAA ruled they could NOT compete in athletics. Apparently, the IHSAA is saying the full eligibility only accounts for an athlete who transfers to another PUBLIC school within the city. Bowman is a charter school.

How did Elia get screwed? I mean, if he fell, he fell. Did he get tripped? I think Elia will be even tougher this year. Coming off a pretty good XC season. I wish more long(er) sprinters considered cross at the very least, to keep them in shape out competing.

Id be looking to watch the hurdling duo from bloomington north of kenyun byrd and max tuttle. If i remember they both had great seasons last year, but the state meet didnt go too well for them. But definitely two of the states best returning hurdlers..keep an eye on them this tournament season

The IHSAA always picks on the Bowman Academy(check out the boys basketball travesty last year on youtube). That probably would have been a better fit for McMillan. But he did want to follow Coach Nelson, so is Nelson at Hobart as well?

BD has lost it's top sprinter from a year ago, but we do have a few sophomores that will be solid...but not great. Jerry Wilson will have to step in and be the number one guy.

Tuttle and Byrd? How about the whole Bloomington North team?!! They will start off ranked in the top five.

Feeney is a beast, but he will be challenged by Keenan Johnson, and a few from the Fort Wayne area.

Cordova is the man to be right now, but look out for Jordan Gater(Fairfield)

My rankings are in the works...should debut in January...stay tuned.

Bowman and its fans like to feel discriminated by "The Man", in this case the IHSAA. If their star player and coach had been smart they would have made sure he would not have been in postition to get technical foul number two and be kicked out of the championship game. Sometimes it pays to be discreet and fight another day. By the way they would have lost to Triton and if not them to Jac-Cen-Del anyway.

Who all does Ben Davis return for sprints and 400? What college does Matt Terrell attend?

Based predominately on the State Meet last year I would predict the following:

110m - The easy pick would be Rose from BD but I think Mikesky from Zionsville might have more upside given that he is only going to be a junior and bigger improvements are more likely for the younger guys. I would not count out Tuttle as he came on late last year but had a rocky State meet. I'm sure there will be several "dark horses" come along.

300m - I don't want to sound like a broken record but I think Mikesky might be the favorite here as well. He got royally shafted last year when his heat had to run a second time due to incorrect hurdle placement. Buchanon from SB Clay, Yoder from Concord and Tuttle Bloom North should be right there.

BD returns their whole 4x400 squad and Matt is at Ohio St.

Do you know what he did to get a tech? He blocked a shot. He wasn't talking trash, or throwing elbows. The kid simply pinned a shot against the glass. The video I looked at shows both technicals.

I doubt if BD's 4x4 will have all four members from last year's team on it...and at this point, I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing.
