Great picture. I wonder what T.J. and Crist talked about during the race?

In the video it surely does not look like Tate beat Crist

You have to remember that the runners' times are based off when their foot crosses the line, not their chest like in track. That is the only real disadvantage to timing chips.

Well even though it does go by chips I have to say i've still framed it countless times and I can't see how is chip got in front of crists. It's a petty issue though, they're both great runners and are going to state so I congratulate them both.

I can't see which foot each runner had his chip on so it might be that Tate's chip was on his lead leg while Crist's was on his trailing leg. Technology does have its fault at times.

Unless High School rules differ from USATF and NCAA rules it is still the runner's torso that determines their place. THe chips are used to put the runner's in their approximate place but the meet should have officials (or video) to make determination on close calls.

After watching the video it is difficult to figure out how the chip timing could have even placed Tate ahead of Jason as it appears both of Jason's feet are in front of Tate's front foot.

Very strange.

They had chips on both feet which is supposed to mitigate the issue of which leg comes across first. The way i understand it each chip registers a time and the two times are averaged to create the official time.

Still, it is blatantly clear that Crist crosses before Schienbein, I'm not sure how the results ended up the way they did

Do the blue electronic pads signal when you cross first or when your foot touches it because I noticed that Tate's foot touched the pad first while Jason's foot didnt touch until his stride ended if that makes sense. watch the video closely.

I was a teammate of Schienbein. Very humble guy who just loves to race. Great runner and still has a lot of potential.

I am pretty sure its wen it touches...I have had issues with this before, I understand chips are nessecary at large meets, but at state if two runners ar going for the win and something like this comes up......
O well whats done is done congrats to em both.

Why is this such an issue? why not congratulate them both and move on. It's not a big deal. It didn't mean a ring did it? Also, I have to give them both a big "go get'em" this weekend. This is when it counts, if these gentlemen can take down the dreaded Futsum the coming week, great. I wish them and everyone behind them luck. Get him and catch him and beat him. Good luck guys. TJ, Hayden wishes you well and will be there to watch you and wishes he was there to play along. He apologizes for not being there with you.

Close races always deem interest and are fun to watch. Others may be more interested in reliving the race than TJ or Jason are right now. Both are great competitors and runners. They are great to watch as they give 110% to the race. They are friends and have a good deal of respect for each other.. hence I say, they are more interested in getting geared up for the race Saturday. Both places and times are very respectable; especially given the depth in this semi-state. The place did not change FC's score..

It is a great picture - thank you for sharing it on the site.

Agreed, agreed, I've talked to him plenty of times. In no way did I mean to take anything away from either of their performances, I was simply making an observation, both great runners and I wish them both luck at state
