Cinder Tracks?

Postby floydcc on Thu Feb 09, 2012 2:50 pm

I was sitting here at my desk letting my mind wander and I was thinking if there were still any cinder tracks left in Indiana?? If so are they still used??

Also for you indy folks does anyone know what that dirt track off of 64th between grandview dr and Hoover Rd (see gmap pedometer or something to see what I mean) its like .45 miles or something. Possibly for horses? I have no clue
There can be only one...

Bishop Chatard had a cinder track before being eliminated by recent construction. It hadn't been used for competition for years and may have been the only track in the state that had a hill on it!

We had a cinder track in Columbia City up through the mid '90s. It has since been replaced by tennis courts and a softball diamond.

I believe that Monrovia still has a cinder track. (At least as of 10 years ago).

There had been one at Pierre Moran middle school in Elkhart until about 2008 when they surfaced it.

It is rumored that there is an old cinder track in Angola...I have been meaning to look for it.

PreLives, look behind Hendry Park Elementary school in Angola. There is an old cinder track with a baseball field and basketball courts inside the oval. My wife remembered it from when she went to school there.

Ritter will be replacing their cinder track soon.

Indianapolis Shortridge has a brand new track. Prior to last year, it was a cinder track.
