Best team Chemistry

Postby 09-2miler on Mon Nov 09, 2009 11:27 pm

As I prepare for a plethora of ME ME ME or US US US YOU CAN'T VOTE FOR YOURSELF.

What team has the best chemistry? Who has the least fights, least blow-ups, funniest squad...Name a few THEN THEN THEN we can make a poll.

How would anyone have any clue of that many teams? Other than your own team or maybe a few others that you see a lot, for the most part no one can reasonably judge.

I suggest you don't make a poll, because the results will mean absolutely nothing. People will automatically vote for fast teams, their own team, or a team they are familiar with.

I have only ever been on two teams but I think that the closest teams are probably those with 20-30 members. I could not imagine being on a team like Carmel with 100 guys and still feel really close to every one of them. Even on my team of 30, there are seniors who don't know all the freshmen's names by the end of the season. I think that if a team is too small, the team mates look at eachother more as team mates and not family or really close friends. On a team of 10, there is less of chance of people enjoying the same things and being on the same level of running ability, which then makes it hard to feel a connection with someone who doesn't run the same workouts as you.

Before i start im just going to say i know you dont want us to use examples of our teams but................
anyways my team is very close and being completly honest we all have found somthing to like about everyone, we have nicknames for just about everyone and sure there may be a bit of joking around but its always in good fun. My team has great chemistry and i hope alot of other teams have the same as we do!

I Agree that this post is pretty hard to determine.....
However, I will add my input anyway.
Every good to great team NEEDS chemistry. No team can survive if everyone on the team hates each other. My team is not a big one (i think we had 12 guys this year) I think that this makes it funner and allows for better chemistry because unlike super schools like Carmel or North Central...we all know each other quite well. Our top 5 especially, are a very tight group. I have known them for 7-8 years through school and that makes us a very close knit group of runners. Healthy competition is nessecary between teamates as well. Everyone on the team is on a different level of competition in the meets but we can still push each other in practice. We might not always get along...or agree with what someone says, but we always find a way to make a punishing sport fun.
If I'm not voting for myself...then I say Brownsburg, those guys are always cool to race with

I'm curious to know if most coaches/runners believe the team chemistry is better on a team with more upper classmen who run varsity, or a team with more runners around the same grade level?

Carmel's girls 'appear' to have a good bond and they obviously are quite successful, figuring their 4 sophomores and 1 junior that make up their main nucleus.

Punishing sport? Why is this a punishing sport? If you learned to love running you'd probably be better at it. It isn't a chore, quit if you want to. I'm eager to hear your response.

I can always count on you to find a flaw with any post I make hot shot....anyone that runs cc knows that it is a punishing sport, you have to try HARD to get anywhere in running. Punishing can mean a multitude of things, challenging, hard, difficult, that is what I love about running....it actually requires EFFORT. I am nowhere near the best runner out there, but nowhere near the worst, and I do love running just as much or even more than you.

basically, if you think XC is not punishing sport.....then you are not trying hard enough

I guess that would depend on how you guys define as 'loving running more'

To me the guy that does 50 mpw but incorporates his love of running into every aspect of like (doesn't want a girlfriend, doesn't drink pop, doesn't eat fast food, doesn't want a job (high schoolers), and doesn't do anything to risk injury like other sport, sledding, jumping from things)...that guy loves running more than

The guy who does 80 mpw, stretching, core, and weightlifting, but separates the rest of his life from running (social groups, diet, hobbies)

Just to put my input from Carmel. We are a big team and I by no means know everyone on the team. But our set up is sort of like 5 smaller teams of 20 that all make up one big 100 man team. So we all become close within our 20 man training group. Also I know you said not to post about your own team, but my team last year that won the state championship last year had an incredible bond especially the main 7 who ran varsity most of the year we called ourselves the “band of brothers”. After viewing Columbus North’s #1 runners video interview after the state meet it seemed like they all were very close and had great chemistry.

Uhhhhhhh, wasn't it said at the start of this thread not to hype up your team??? And I've seen alot of teams around the state but North Harrison looked like they had great team chemistry and so did Noblesville, great group of guys...
